The Beginning

Modern Recreations Ltd was born after being bought by Riley Leisure PLC.

Early 1984

Product Evolution

Modern Recreations became the subject of a management buyout from Riley Leisure PLC. From here the company became Modrec International and went on to sell the first of the new range of products under own label Gino Ferrari since the buyout. As well as products from licensed brand Pierre Cardin which went on to be sold in several major department stores.

1988

luxury leather

Created and developed a range of accessories under the Bugatti brand including leather travel bags, business bags, leather goods and accessories. The range generated huge following and demand and was sold in leading department stores and independent retailers. Following phenomenal success, this was sold back to the Bugatti label under 2002

1993/1994

Pioneering Innovation in Travel

During one of many sourcing trips to Asia there was a meeting with a Dutch inventor about the revolutionary “MoveEasy”, the first upright Luggage with an integrated hidden handle system and wheels. Modrec International was the first to introduce luggage of this type to the UK market, first sold in House of Fraser.

Modern Continuation

1998

Expanding Global Operations

Opening of Modrec China offices specialising in the Made to Order service, sourcing, product inspection and manufacturing.

2005-2011

Expanding Across Europe

Approached by the Global Licensee of the Wenger brand to launch and distribute laptop bags, backpacks, and luggage in Europe. Following great success, the former brand owner took the brand back in-house.

2012

Expanding Into North America

Opening of the Modrec North America office in Toronto, which had continued success in a range of major retailers across Canada.

2014

Launching the a2b Brand

Launched first products under the a2b registered brand label. An entry level range aimed at the mass market, general travelling consumer

2018

Partnering With London Fog

Appointed as the UK licensee for London Fog for luggage, bags, wallets, and purses.

2019

Expanding Into Retail & E-Commerce

Modrec International begun sourcing and developing luggage, bags, wallets, purses, and accessories for major high street and e-commerce retailers. New corporate website was launched, as well as the exciting launch of the new B2C retail website

2026

Today

Modrec International moved into their new office and warehouse in Benton following a multi-million pound investment – this defined a new era of Modrec.
